Gaming – Do It Yourself

Want to fix your old gaming machines or spice up your collection? Learn how to do it yourself!

There are many game collectors out there, all with various collection sizes and goals. But most of us have one thing in common: We want our collection to look good. Some of us also want all the game to be readily playable. This page will hopefully be your guide to both get a great looking game collection as well as being able to play all the games you want to play.

Head on over to DIY guides to find a new project to work on. And please consider becoming a Patreon member to help me pay for this site and purchase new gaming-related stuff to work on. All guides are free but the digital stuff that I’ve made myself is only available to my Patreon members.

  • Making repro-games for Wonderswan
Making a repro game for the Wonderswan is actually quite easy – but as with a lot of mods, there are a ton of things to consider. I’ve learned this method from the user remysharp on Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/WonderSwan/comments/1670705/been_making_my_own_carts_via_chip_swaps_and/ With the method I’m about to describe, you will need an original game to be sacrificed and… Making repro-games for Wonderswan
  • 3D-printing for Playdate
Cover Playdate is not the most common console, but it’s small, cool and awesome! I want to note that I did not make these stl-files myself, I just found them on… 3D-printing for Playdate
  • Easy region mod for Mega Drive / Genesis 1
There are a couple of different mods out there to make your Mega Drive work with all different regions – there’s a switchless mod that changes region by holding the reset button which is quite nice, but require a chip and new LED, so I won’t cover that one here. There’s also another mod with… Easy region mod for Mega Drive / Genesis 1
  • Updated Midi Blaster
I made some changes of my own to the Midi Blaster – changed from the slow booting RPi OS with desktop to the much faster RPi OS Lite. My Patreons can read more about it and download the new image here.
  • Playing MIDI-songs from floppy
I follow @luke.the.maker on Instagram and I loved his Midi Blaster that he posted about! I was super excited when he released the instructions on how to do one for yourself for free on his Patreon site: https://www.patreon.com/posts/midi-blaster-v1-126826036 If you havn’t heard of the MidiBlaster, it’s a kind of portable music player that Luke The… Playing MIDI-songs from floppy
  • Covers for Famicom Disk System disks
I had two games for Famicom Disk system that were missing the cover-paper – so what to do? Print new ones of course! I started with an image search on google – found them both on https://www.gamingalexandria.com/ (great site by the way!). I then measured the one original cover that I had – it’s 80mm… Covers for Famicom Disk System disks
